This weekend, the debut of Opera Philadelphia’s envelope-pushing Opera in the City series takes over the new FringeArts space on Columbus Boulevard.
The brand-new series calls upon immersive elements to change the opera-goers experience and also brings fully staged operas to unanticipated spaces in neighborhoods across the city.
Opera in the City opens with the American premiere of SvadbaWedding, a modern Serbian a cappella opera that tells the lively story of a bride-to-be and a group of her close friends on the night before her wedding.
Join the merriment of the interactive show as high-spirited tunes from a number of genres fill the FringeArts performance space.
Following the performance, ticket holders are encouraged to continue the festivities with a post-show Balkan wedding celebration complete with traditional cuisine and live Balkan music from the West Philadelphia Orchestra.
General admission tickets are $69 per person, and are available online. Check out the show on November 2, 3, 6 or 7.
